Underline is a markdown editor that stays out of your way. Type on the left. Read a finished page on the right.
Every product decision in Underline is a subtraction. Here are the three we are most proud of.
Underline is a page, not a stack of dragged rectangles. Type a heading, get a heading. Type a list, get a list. Nothing to click.
Every note is a plain markdown file in a folder you own. Version it in git. Back it up to a drive. Leave whenever you want without exporting.
Underline does not autocomplete your voice. If you want a model in the loop, run one on your machine and pipe it in. We stay out of it.
The window on the second floor is the kind of window nothing happens through. You open it. You watch. You close it again. That is all a morning should ask of anyone.
I made coffee, twice, because the first was too hot to drink and I forgot about it. I opened a page and left it open. I wrote one sentence and then another. Neither survived.
Underline stayed out of the way for all of them.
"I switched from Notion, Obsidian, and Bear in six months. Underline is the first one where I actually keep writing."
