Why ask users to pick a role during onboarding?

It lets the product show relevant content immediately in place of a generic default. A writing tool that knows it is talking to a sales team can lead with outreach templates, not making the user search for them.

How many role options should I offer?

Four to six. Too few and people cannot find themselves, too many and the screen becomes a decision. Add examples under each role so users match on the work, not the job title.

What if a user does not fit any role?

Keep the skip link. Forcing a wrong answer gives you bad data and annoys the user. A skipped answer is more useful than a guessed one.

Where do I store the selected role?

On the user record. Ask your AI in Bolt, Lovable, or Replit to save it to Supabase or Firebase when the user continues, then read it wherever you want to personalize.
