What should SaaS onboarding do first?
Get the customer to the thing they signed up for. Tours that explain the interface before anything useful happens lose people who came with a job to do.
How long should an onboarding flow be?
Short enough that finishing feels closer than quitting. A checklist of three or four steps with visible progress does more than a tour of ten screens.
Are product tours worth building?
When the product has a surface nobody would guess at. When it does not, a good empty state does the same work with less to maintain.
What makes a good empty state?
It shows what the screen looks like full, and gives one action to get there. An empty state that only says there is nothing here wastes the most important screen a new customer sees.
